Abstract

Teluk Bintuni Regency, West Papua Province, experienced a measles outbreak in 2023 and continued to report suspected cases in the post-outbreak phase, amid a district-level measles immunization coverage of only 65.90% in 2024. This study aimed to analyze the distribution of suspected measles cases among children by person, place, and time characteristics in Bintuni and Manimeri Districts during 2024–2025. A descriptive observational design was applied using total sampling. Secondary data were obtained from MR-01 and MR-02 surveillance forms from Puskesmas Bintuni and Puskesmas Manimeri; univariate analysis was conducted. Of 50 cases analyzed, 78.0% occurred in children under five years, with the highest proportion in infants under one year (28.0%). Sex distribution was equal at 50.0% each. Incomplete immunization was recorded in 85.7% of infants under one year, declining to 18.8% in the 2–<5 year group. A total of 86.0% of cases had no travel history outside the regency, and 86.0% had no documented contact history with measles cases. Bintuni District accounted for 72.0% of cases. Cases declined 21.4% from 2024 to 2025, alongside an increase in the proportion of infants under one year from 17.9% to 40.9%. Cases were concentrated in early age groups with notable immunization gaps and a transmission pattern consistent with local spread. Strengthening routine immunization in children under two years and sustaining individual case-based surveillance in the post-outbreak phase are priority actions.
